Every great work of history is devised and edited with an audience in mind. Whilst there is a great deal to learn from the contents of ‘Hogwarts: A History’, there is even more that was lost when certain portions were excised by overzealous Headmasters, concerned that the school’s reputation not be blemished by some of the less pleasant events in its past. Sometimes, however, texts that were thought to be lost are rediscovered and ancient tales retold.
