"She was as beautiful as the day." But we remember her perfectly well and she was nothing of the sort. Great fun! (Although Sirius Black had grey eyes acto Rowling on her website.)

Author's Response: Ha! I'm so pleased somebody else knows the Bastables. That particular chapter has always been one of my favorites, and I had such fun rearranging it Potter-universe style! Thanks!

I like this a lot. I've always had a soft spot for Sirius, despite him being a bit of a knob. But, meh, bad guys are never really bad, just misguided. This shows that in a lovely way.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm no great fan of Sirius, but everything pointed towards a miserable childhood.

This is so sad. I never liked Sirius, but when you think about it (which this story made me do), it's amazing he turned out as well as he did.

That was so powerful! My heart alternated between being utterly charmed, beating wildly in fear, and feeling so sad for Sirius' lot! Excellent description of playtime at the Place and Mrs. Black was pure evil, through and through. Well done!!

Author's Response: Thanks! I appreciate you taking the time to review!

This was a great story! Sorry that I am SO behind on my reviews. You have a talent that I envy- the ability to succinctly write so much into a short space! I loved this- the Muggle children (playing "kill the Muggle" and thinking it's just a game!!) Sirius being embarassed that he has a house elf when the other kids don't, and the horrible Mrs. Black- were all wonderful. I never liked Sirius, but in your story, I can feel kind of sorry for him. You're really a super talented writer. I used to read Nesbit and the Eager "magic" series when I was little, and I still appreciate kids-having-adventures stories! Very nice touch that one of the kids missed being Obliviated.

Author's Response: Thanks for the kind words! I still love kids' fiction, and it was fun to write a little of my own.

Lovely stuff, Arsinoe! Even though Sirius isn't one of my favorite characters, this fleshes out the hell he grew up in that caused him to be such a, well, jerk.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review! Yes, Sirius definitely = jerk. But JKR gives us plenty of reasons to understand why. Looking over the story, I'm a little annoyed with myself, because I've done something myself that I dislike JKR doing: give a backstory explaining an unpleasant male character. JKR always does it, while never doing the same for her villainesses! Anyway, thanks again!

A lovely, tragic story. I dislike Sirius, but you've successfully made him sympathetic here — he really must have had a terrible childhood, if that portrait is any indication.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm always glad to get a review from you. Yes--I don't like Sirius either--not sure why I wrote a story about him--but children don't pick their parents, and he certainly was unlucky in that regard!

Delightful! It was interesting that it was told from Sorrel's point of view. I wonder if Sirius, from his bedroom window, could see Sorrel looking for him and the gate? Thanks for sharing!

Author's Response: I hadn't thought of it! I suppose he did. I'm not a great fan of Sirius Black, but it's always important to remember that he spent nearly all of his life (except the time at Hogwarts) as a prisoner of some sort. No wonder he was so wild at school! Thanks for the review!

Creepy... It would be interesting to see if she still lives on Grimmauld place as an adult, and if, perhaps, still remembering, notices all the odd going ons now.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. I thought about Sorrel. The whole secret witches-and-wizard thing really, really frightened her, and she did see peculiar things from time to time. But not as an adult. After she left school she never lived in Grimmauld Place again, but emigrated to Australia.

Godd story. I love the child's point of view! Very creepy! Sirius' Mother really is a witch, in every way!

Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing! Yes, considering the completely looney fragment of personality revealed in her portrait, Mrs. Black must have been a very sick woman. It's not surprisingly that Sirius grew up rather warped. In the books, we see the wizarding world mostly through Harry's eyes, and he loves it, but a muggle at the receiving end of magic would obviously get a very different, and very horrible impression!

Wow...kind of creepy. Very good, but kind of creepy.

Author's Response: Thanks for your review! I couldn't imagine Sirius' upbringing as anything but creepy!
