This is EXCELLENT. Perfect Wooster tone, amusing figures of speech, and of course beloved characters from two fandoms. Well done!
Author's Response: Thank you. It amazes me that people are still reading this five years out. The internet is a wonderful thing.
This was terrific. I have to admit, I'm a Wodehouse fan, first and foremost, and I was a bit wary of reading this. I'm so glad I did. You used so much of both canons and you used them in just the right places. It was hilarious and suspenseful, too.
Kudos to you for such a sterling job. I'm glad this was recced on Indeed Sir.
Brilliant stuff. Once I got around the annoying Colin Creevey being the mastermind Jeeves I loved it all.
Author's Response: Thanks. Would you have preferred Peeves?
Hilarious! I really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing ~
Author's Response: Thanks for reading!
Interesting. I came here on rec because I'm Loopy about Wodehouse and in the Harry Potter fandom. I found this weird marriage andI'm not sure how I feel about it Bertie!Harry is a bit disturbing.
Author's Response: If I can get my readers from loopy all the way to disturbed, then my work here is done.
short epiloge: harry launches out of chair to throttel (strangel) crevey for being presuptus
great story laughed my ass off
Author's Response: Did you find this fic off the Master List of Genfics (http://chthonya.livejournal.com/58829.html)? It's on it.
Oh. My. God. I think I'm in love.
It's brilliant, it's funny, it's absolutely Wodehouse-esque, and I worship you for doing it. I imagine purists would say that you've completely, utterly mangled JKR's world --and you have to some extent, although the idea of Harry fading into obscurity after Neville's triumph is quite original-- but I'm not especially fond of the drama-rific HP world in any case. I can really appreciate what you've done here, and you've captured PGW's style quite beautifully. I especially adore this line: "They are having their lawyer draw up papers that begin, ‘I, Tidings, being of sound mind and body, do hereby bequeath…’!”
Well done, old chap.
Author's Response: Score – my first worshiper. I like that line too, but I must admit that it was inspired more by Blackadder than by Bertie. PS. Forgive the lateness of my reply.
Very funny! Great job of combining Wodehouse and HP. I love the setup with Ron throwing gnomes and then a house-elf into the hedge when those are Hermione's two "philanthropic" passions. And Harry picturing Snape sitting across from him at a holiday table! I would love to see that scene.
Author's Response: Thank you. Maybe someone will illustrate this fic and you will see that scene. PS. Forgive the lateness of my reply.
This story is fantastic. Thanks!
Author's Response: You are quite welcome. PS. Forgive the lateness of my reply.
P.G. Wodehouse has long been a favorite of mine so it was terrific fun to read this. I loved it.
Author's Response: Thanks. I suspect Rowling is a Plum fan too. So figured the worlds might mesh pretty well. PS. Forgive the lateness of my reply.
As a JKR fan (obviously - why else would I be here?) who's been rediscovering Wodehouse over the last few months I really enjoyed this. Thanks.
Author's Response: Sweet. My secret plan to start a Wodehouse revival is working! PS. Forgive the lateness of my reply.
Very well done...in the best tradition of Wodehouse. You captured his style perfectly. Harry sounds like Bertie, (lol) and acts like him, too. So funny with Petunia marrying Lovegood. All in all...a winner.
Author's Response: Thank you so much for the praise. People well acquainted with the originals are the hardest to impress with this kind of stuff. PS. Forgive the lateness of my reply.
And a matchup of two of my favourites as well. LOL for Creeves and trying to evade Hermione. Strangely enough, Hermione is exactly the sort of name given to Society harpies who you'd sell your soul to avoid marrying.
Author's Response: Wow, I didn’t know I was still getting hits. I have found several HP names in Wodehouse books. “Ring for Jeeves” has a Bulstrode and a Trelawney. PS. Forgive the lateness of my reply.
Bloody Brilliant!
Author's Response: Thank you. I'm pleased to see that so many Brits like my story (or at least Yanks who use Britishisms).
That was EXCELLENT. I absolutely love the way you got the PG style down pat, worked in little HPised references to his stuff, and came up with a suitably Wodehousian plot -- while at the same time using the Potterverse characters to fill the roles. "Creeves" and th "Gnomes Club" were strokes of brilliance, and I was laughing out loud at a number of p. Definitely one I'll be recommending. :)
Author's Response: You are too kind. Please do recommend. It's not very hard to find people reading HP, but I don't run into Wodehouse fans very often. It is nice to know that they're out there, and it's gratifying to know that my meager tale may convince some HP fans to read Jeeves for the first time.
Oh, this is absolutely brilliant!!!! From the very first "Creeves!" you had me completely and totally hooked!! I love Wodehouse, and this was much more than a fitting tribute to both authors... this is witty and clever, and such a pleasure to read! I can't think of enough adjectives to do it justice. Congratulations on an excellent piece ~ I'm delighted that you decided to write it and share it with us.
Author's Response: I am overwhelmed by the praise this fic (my first) is getting. I usually do photo-manipulations (here's one where I used early casting rumors to imagine Mad-eye, Rita, and Cho. http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze49p8r/goblet.htm) My artwork usually draws more criticism than compliments, or else it is ignored all together. I'm starting to think I should bag the visual art and concentrate on fiction.
I haven't read 'Code of the Woosters' in a very long time, but this parody of Bertie Wooster was just brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed all of your deft and sly parallels, including Creeves and the Gnomes Club. Just so wonderfully inventive.
Author's Response: There were many natural similarities to take advantage of. Bertie and Harry are both orphans with inherited fortunes and disapproving aunts. They are both fiercely loyal to schoolmates. They frequently rely on someone else’s brainpower (though in Harry’s case it’s Hermione not Colin). I felt that if all the vengeance and prophesy stuff was out of the way, and Harry could finally relax, he would be very much like Bertie.
Abso-bloody-lutely brilliant!
Author's Response: "I endeavor to give satisfaction."
ROTFLMAO! What a lovely nod towards Wodehouse! Still, Harry may be a wooster, but even so he should be able to tell "ante meridiem" from anti-meridian, as it is a question of life and death for a wooster. :)
Author's Response: Thanks, I made the edit. (And to think, I once won a prize for geography knowledge in grammar school.)
LOL! Very Amusing. I'm a big Wodehouse fan, I think he should be required reading in HS, so within the first three lines of your story the title clicked and I said, "Ah ha! Another Wodehouse fan." I was surprised at you using Colin Creevey for Jeeves, I probably would have thought of Snape in that role, but I guess the name fits and besides you couldn't have had an HG/SS story if Snape had been Jeeves.
Author's Response: I was going to use Peeves, since the name was so close, but I couldn't imagine him in the role. When I thought of Colin, I knew it was a perfect fit - he would love to be Harry's valet and there is no reason he couldn't grow up to be so knowledgeable. Creeves is a good nickname for him, though I'm certain a proper gentleman's gentleman would not tolerate a nickname. Oh well.
After a long day at work and uni, I came home and read this story ... what a great end to an otherwise dull day. I have always loved Wodehouse and you did a remarkable job blending his style with the Potterverse. Bravo! I love this story!
Author's Response: Glad to be of service. After a long day at work, I enjoy reading kind reviews like yours.
Pretty nice Jeeves & Wooster - loved how you put it together with HP - great idea & a fun read. Thanks for sharing. Must go read some Wodehouse again!
Author's Response: If I can inspire folks to read Wodehouse then I am happy.
Screamingly funny. Great shout-out to Deeble. Transferred apallingly well, didn't it? Thanks very much for the entertainment.
Author's Response: Thank you for the kind words.
Deeble was my inspiration. She also beta'ed for me and helped me post here.
That was awesome. Wodehouse is one of my very favorite authors as well. You caught his style pretty well.
Author's Response: That means a lot coming from a Plum fan. I was worried that anyone who has read Jeeves might find Creeves loathsome.
Dash it all ---very good show , old girl...
ripping homage to P.G. Wodehouse + J.K. Rowling.
Author's Response: I'm very glad you like it, but I should tell you... I'm an old boy.
Deeble warned me that men are few on this site and those that write are always assumed to be women. I guess my prose is not dripping with testosterone, but I am, nevertheless, a dude.
