That makes sense! I alwas had wondered myself who had given it to Harry; why would James leave something this useful with Dumbledore when he went into hiding?

I guess James could always have left the cloak with Dumbledore to protect the spies that Dumbledore had. (I'm actually just about to submit another short story including that very theory, in fact...)

That's an interesting take on the cloak. I never would have thought of Wormtail giving it to him.

I had actually missed the part where Dumbledore *admitted* giving the cloak to Harry, and in missing that, I analyzed all the information. The handwriting on the notes (1st year and 6th year) is different, and while, granted, Dumbledore did injure his wand (and presumably his writing) hand, if you just take the part out where Dumbledore admitted it, you have to figure out who gave it to him and why.
Peter wasn't originally my theory, but it was a theory that worked very well, I thought; he certainly had motive, opportunity and means. And it veritably begged to be written! :)
