This is very well written. With all the subtle (or not so subtle?) references to death the reader knows exactly what is going to happen at the end, but we keep reading hoping that the family will be safe.
“And you’re going to drop him.” “…giving James a look of death.” “ … and it was killing her.” “She wanted to wrap Harry up in cotton and pack him away in a box.” “Your mummy hears The Dark Lord at the door; ‘Avada Kedavra!’ That makes four.” “I’m going to hex you so badly…”

Harry Potter is a really dark story, when you think about it.

We all know what's going to happen. It's just so sad. And yes, if she had got older, Lily would remember that feeling of a nursing child, the smell, the touch ... oh, this is just heart rending. Beautifully written and sensitively told.
Author's Response: Thanks! I love thinking about Lily and baby Harry. I've got a two year old myself, so 15 months is still pretty fresh in my mind.
