I think his trip to the cave by the sea is where he came to his full pre-Hogwarts magic. (Dumbledore said it had "old magic" in it.) It is interesting to see another author's take on the trip to the sea, and what may have happened there.

it may be cliche of me to say it, but i think this is rather haunting. "He wishes he could find its hollow core and curl up inside it." -- rather twisted and embryonic, i think, but interesting to hear from an orphan.
