I loved Hermione's rationalizations - very in-character! Thanks for writing :D

Crap, forgot to mention--came through here by way of a rec on the LJ community crack_broom, if you're curious. :D

Ahh. I have to admit, I've always felt more than just a little disappointed in Hermione's tactics and behavior in HBP. I'm sure you've heard all the old arguments--it was out of character, it read like bad fan fic, etc. I'm not sure those reasons really hold water with me; rather, they made me not really like Hermione as a person-character, even when I tried to remind myself that she was just a teenager trying to work her way into growing up. BUT. This story, I think...I think this story has really gone a long way to putting a clear picture in my mind of just why she did the things she did and why those choices don't necessarily reflect lack of judgment or bad character. This is simply charming, wholly believable, and perhaps most importantly, it has me cheering for Hermione again!

Sophie, I really like how you get into Hermione's brain here. She can be such a complex character--and at this point in the series, she's definitely not so innocent--you do a great job of examining her motivation (for all those questionable deeds)! I also like how you look at the question of love and the things it makes us feel and do; that statement about Hermione's happiness being so wrapped up in Ron's (i.e. "...where Ron was concerned, she was no longer able to separate his happiness from her own.") is almost painfully insightful. I remember that feeling of losing myself in love as a teenager. How well you describe it from Hermione's pov!

Wonderful! I enjoyed things from Hermione's point of view, you knew it had to be interesting, and you've filled in the gap beautifully.

this was really great and such an excellent Hermione. Funny, logical, intelligent, scheming, vunerable and a bit heartbreaking all at once.

This was a nice story. Hermione seemed very IC, especially as she rationalizes her confunding.

I don't think I saw any of the Romancing the Wizard stories, so I'm glad you've posted this here. You've caught that what-is-wrong-with-me feeling that a lot of smart teen-age girls probably get when they're in the throes of their first major crush. I enjoyed the humor, too, especially: "But she couldn’t get it out of her head! (Metaphorically speaking, of course.)" ~Snerk~
It's the final paragraph that really makes the story, though, don't you think? Great choice, making it a single, tightly packed sentence.

Lovely story. Hermione is a real teenage girl with a king-sized crush not a superwoman.
The ending wrapped it all very neatly. Poor Hermione.

I came to this story from a rec on LJ. Very cute and Hermione-like! I think this is exactly how her mind works.

Here on a rec from Azazello's LJ. Wonderful, wonderful story. It really got inside Hermione's head, so to speak, and I loved it. Especially the last line, which was sad and made me smile at the same time. Definitely a must-read.

This is absolutely excellent. Well done. Very well done. It's beautifully Hermione. I do think that "movie Hermione" is so NOT "canon Hermione" - Emma Watson is just not my mental image of the girl, but THIS is. This is what was going on inside her head when she confunded McLaggan. He bloody deserved it. Good for you. More of the same kind, please.

I found your story through Junediamanti's Livejournal, and your story is excellent! This is a believeable portrait of Hermione - as an actual person with actual feelings. Very well done!

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing! But I can't quite agree with the "no one important" signature, as I really do appreciate the fact that you stopped to review. ;-D

So tell me, you are really Hermione in disguise, right?
You have written down her feelings, the feeling of a teenage girl so perfectly, that I really wonder ...
Well done! It was a pleasure to read.
Author's Response: Oh, I sometimes wish I were Hermione. She's got a lot on her plate, mind you, but she leads such an adventurous life! Thanks so much for your kind review!

Yay! I'm so sorry I missed this, Sophie! It's wonderful, and well deserving of the rec. You rock!
Author's Response: Thanks, Snarkypants, for your review. I didn't realize June had rec'd it ... not sure I deserve that, but hey, so glad you saw it and had a chance to read the story!

I've just read this (in the validation queue, no less) and cannot pass by without reviewing.
This is a delightful little tale - funny, sweet and definitely a plausible analysis of Hermione's feelings at these events. With a sad little twist at the end, too!
I laughed and sighed at the same time at the ending. Lovely work.
Author's Response: Thanks, Azazello, both for the kind words and for validating the fic!
