The title is very eye-catching. I Googled it, and it looks like it's an original phrase. How did you come up with it, or what is it based on?

How sad it is that there is nothing that neither Cygnus nor Druella could do to make Narcissa's marriage a happy one - and (worse) that Cygnus suspected that marriage to Lucius would not be a happy experience for his daughter.

Author's Response: The working title was "Shared Strength"--not very interesting, I know. I just kind of played with it and somehow managed to come up with a more romantic and--what I hoped to be-- powerfully emotional new one. It's a sad situation for all involved, but at least Andromeda ended up happy in the end.

I'm an arranged marriage freak, so you have to know how I would feel about this story. And you've managed to make us feel sympathy for Bella's *parents*--do you know what a feat that is? You are amazing. Excellently done!

Author's Response: I know you love your arranged marriages--sometimes a little too much. ;-) I think one would be sympathetic to Bella's parents just because she is their daughter. Thank you.

You have me intriuged, why don't you open it up and expand the story? I'd enjoy a chronicle of their marriage and how their children became the way they are. I think that Andromeda was more following their example than rebelling. She saw a happy marriage and wanted one for herself, and Tonks, in spite of her quirks, turned out very well.

She was spot on in not marrying Lucius, she knew evil when she saw it. As the youngest, Narcissa had absolutely no choice at all. She had to follow custom and tradition, and I'd bet that Andromeda's 'so-called abandoning her heritage was held up to her face constantly. Thus she ended up as a brood mare for the Malfoys. Lucius got his heir and didn't even bother to sire a spare. The magical world was very lucky that Lucius and Bellatrix weren't paired off, imagine what that could produce.

I've always felt sympathy for Narcissa, after she produced Draco her only use to Lucius was as a pawn. It's not a plot, but Narcissa would make a great character study. I'd better stop here, before I outline a whole family saga for you to write. I've always been a fan of family sagas, from the Forsyes to R.F. Delderfield's Swann family trilogy and his Craddocks of A Horseman Riding By.

One more thing, I wouldn't call this historical fiction, it's more of a period piece. The worst part of that period was the clothes. I'm trying to picture Lucius in a leisure suit, or in a 3 piece white polyester suit and a black open neck shirt and a gold medallion hanging down his bare chest, a blonde Travolta.

I wouldn't wish my wost '70s sartorial disaster even on Bella, it was a flared leg knit pant suit that was knit in a plaid of green, orange, and white in a pique textured knit. I wore it with a white blouse or sweater, or with an orange or green t-shirt. I cringe to think of it now, I must have looked like I had terminally bad taste.

Author's Response: Bella and Lucius? That's just too horrible to contemplate. I would love to do a sequel to this, but for now I'm just going to leave it as is. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

How sad that the daughters of this kind couple turn out to be such vile creatures. Very well written.

Author's Response: Thank you. Well Andromeda couldn't have been all that bad; she decided to get out. It's nice to know that not everyone in the Black family was completely crazy.

This is just so poignant and lovely. I adore the fact that though forced together, they made the best of it and learned to love one another. How interesting that they didn't pass on that optimisms to all their daughters!

Author's Response: Thanks so much. If my thought that Andromeda was initially supposed to marry Lucius is correct, it may just be that she understood the reality of her situation.
