Yes, I think Harry is trying to protect Ginny from LV. We've already seen what can happen when Tom Riddle gets to her.... But I don't think 'officially' breaking up will do anything to disguise how important she is to him from anyone who matters. The dream was very vivid, but I hope the final battle isn't really like this! It would almost be a shame to watch them gang up on LV....
