This reminds me of a missing scene that you've stumbled across and should have been in the book. It was very nice and true to the canon version of events. I think your Ron is a bit of a mensch!
Author's Response: I have a feeling that we won't get the privilege of seeing Ron and Hermione's first kiss in the books because Hermione is such a private person, and she might not want to do it in front of Harry. So who knows? maybe it'll still be cannon after book 7. Though I do doubt it greatly, it's a nice thought.
