Lucius is an evil, evil man. Ron and Harry will flip out when they find out she's been accepting all the gifts from him. At this rate, he's going to con her into marrying him with no difficulty, she keeps falling into his schemes so handily. I wonder how happy he would be with a bitter bride, though. (which she certainly would be at this point unless he keeps her incoherent with that stone) He had better get to work on her. And I'm not sure why she doesn't bludgeon her mother. Is she going to at least try not to show up for dinner the next day? I would think that Hermione would be working harder not to be around him. I think that worrying about her mother thinking she was rude would fall into a far second compared with trying to extricate yourself from being tricked into marrying an ex-death eater that you don't trust and can't stand. I also think that sitting her mother down and explaining to her how Lucius was the nazi-ish right hand man of Voldemort and if he wasn't up to something selfish necessitating shmoozing Hermione's mom, he would be busy wishing that Doris was six feet under. Or Hermione could try explaining how he tried to kill her at the Ministry of Magic (and during the war? I forget how you set this up.) Well, he almost killed Ginny when she was 12 too, (diary) that should count for something. Doris may be thick, but no one is so thick that they would discount all that.

Goodness me, is Lucius a sneaky bastard, but that's why we love him so. I love how Hermione was trying to hide her problem. Lucius is doing a great job ingratiating himself to the people around Hermione. Of course, he can only get to the people that don't know him that well, but he's doing a great job trying to appear non-threatening...Ah, Doris, must be driving Hermione utterly insane because she just doesn't get why Hermione feels the way she does...And yes, there can be too much of a good thing. I look forward to seeing how she reacts to the Stone.

I really like HG and LM in this fic. Hermoine is so uppity. Everytime she tells Lucius to piss off I can see her in mind, flouncing away. And there's Lucius, patient as ever... This is very well written and entertaining! Can't wait to read more!

Hi, I just added you to my friends list on LJ. I love this story. I really do. Lucius is edgy enough that his is still interesting, and he seems to be manipulating Hermione right where he wants her to be. Gryffindors are so easy to steer. (lol) Love this ship. Not enough people are into it, IMO.

Ack! Now Lucius has Hermione enjoying the mental "playing" with Muggles! Crop circles.... groan.... And then the Knight Mares - he's very evil indeed, causing her a problem and then giving the solution as her second "gift". All this time, I was fearing that his second gift would be a rare book, knowing how books tempt Hermione - but this Stone of Jenetti is even more tempting! C'mon, Hermione - figure a way out of this muck and mire! Don't let Lucius outsmart you! Besides, Aurors use the Killing Curse and don't go mad.

I like this story but I don't like Doris. She's an idiot. She seems way too scatter-brained to be a succesful dentist. I wouldn't let her anywhere near my teeth especially not with any sharp pointy instruments. Also, she seems much older than cannon...she comes across more like someone's dotty old grandmother than what Hermione's mother would be like.
Author's Response: Ahhh, Doris. You are not alone in not liking her. And although I do like her myself, she was purposely written in a way that I knew would rub some readers wrong.

Oooh, what a wonderful story. I loved the Mooncalves. That was awesome. Lucius had her going and coming to his side up until he found entertainment in the Muggles' reaction. Shame she doesn't share that sense of humor, I would have loved it...The Knight Mares were an awesome addition. That was handled very well and I like how Lucius tried to convince her to come to terms with her guilt. I love that he's still being a sneaky Slytherin. He's at this best when he's scheming...I'll check out the LJ and put you on my friends list.

I can't believe I missed this one. I love the first half of the date. He continues to surprise her and she continues to despise him. I loved the conversation they had on house-elves and how he mentioned that the big reason for prejudice against Muggle-borns was their desire to come in and change wizarding society....On to Chapter 6
Author's Response: Thanks again for reviewing. I really enjoyed writing that conversation. I have made things a bit difficult for myself in that I have made Hermione into the exact type of muggleborn that Lucius hates the most. But it makes things more interesting, IMO.

Yea, you updated! This is an interesting twist - I wasn't expecting Lucius to have to deal with a sobbing Hermione so quickly. And the crop circles were brilliant! Probably the only form of muggle-baiting that Hermione can accept is the passive kind, where no one gets hurt, but Lucius still gets to have his fun too. It's a good thing the gifts have to be wrapped and "official" - otherwise anything she accepts from him (like the potions) could be used against her ;). Oh, and in the Piers Anthony books, it's spelled "Night Mares," so not quite the same. I am enjoying this story, and will look forward to seeing how Hermione deals with his next "gift".
Author's Response: Ah, thank you. I couldn't remember what book the other Night Mares were in. I think Hermione would have found more humor in the Mooncalves scene had it occured with someone other than Lucius. Since it was HIM, I'd say she saw it as being more malicious than it really was.

I really like how the series is turning up. I must say, Hermione is a bit childish at times, but can you blame her? I would chastise Malfoy also given their history together but it still seems as if he has some sort of alterior motive in mind. I give her credit for being stubborn and sticking it out but I have a feeling that she'll actually get comfortable and like his brash and imperous nature :P I look forward to reading more. Keep up the good work.

This is absolutely brilliant! I love your evil Lucius. I mean...we all adore the character, that much is obvious...and even though we like to fantasize about him ending up with Hermione, isn't it delightful to have him being so deliciously evil?
God, how irresistable the combination of sly evilness and aristocratic sophistication is!!!
Furthermore, I think the pacing of the story is very well done. I don't get the feeling that things are being rushed. I caught myself numerous times while working on a fic that I wanted to get to the juicy part and therefore was trying to race through all of that which must come before it. You are most definitely not falling for that trap, my dear. You have Hermione second-guessing Lucius' motives and hating his guts, while at the same time she is starting to discover things may not be as black and white as she once thought. I am already sensing that she will be warming up to our dear Slytherin in future. It is my hope, however, that Lucius will get some surprises of his own. For one, I would like for Hermione to get back at him at some point, by tricking him into a position where he is at her mercy for a change.
I am looking forward to further chapters of this intriguing tale. update soon!

I'm very, very intrigued by this story. It's so wonderful. You know he despises her because she's Muggleborn, and she openly despises him, but it's obvious he'll wind up succeeding in courting her and she will come to love him in spite of her resolve not to. What I'm curious to find out as chapters continue to get posted, is if he in fact finds himself genuinely falling in love with her. Now THAT is the biggest question! lol.

And isn't he supposed to give her a courtship gift soon, which she should be prepared to return with a letter? Can she demand he make an Unbreakable Vow to tell her the truth about his motives, etc.? The next part of their date - they take the flying carpet to an exotic location? Hurry and update, please!
Author's Response: LOL. Hermione cannot resist the chocolate!
The rules of the courtship are that Lucius has two fortnights, or 4 weeks, to give her another gift. If he doesn't then after that time has passed Hermione can send him a Disengagement letter to end the courtship. Or if Lucius does give her a gift, then she can refuse it and the courtship will end that way. I hope that clarifies things for you, if not, let me know.
I don't think an Unbreakable Vow will work. Although we know Lucius' motivations are less than honorable, he could easily tell the truth in way that his intentions seem innocent. An Unbreakable vow will come into play eventually though.
And no exotic locations. They will stay in Wiltshire!
