I like that phrase near the end of the story - "He was safe, but he wasn't saved." It's interesting that he hadn't been outside on any other night, and tragic that, of all nights, he picked a full-moon one, and one in which there would have been no stars to see in the stream anyway (the moonlight washes out most stars' lights). It's sad that the stream no longer had any appeal or joy for him, and we know from canon that his happinesses were very, very limited. Thanks for sharing.
