I've always believed that Snape was interested in Lily, whether she returned the interest or not. Your take on their relationship makes perfect sense to me. However, once things are explained to Harry, and he sees the friendship/whatever between them, things are going to get ugly. (Is this going to be Harry/Hermione? It looks a little like you're going in that direction.) I'm eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

Author's Response: Glad you're liking the story! No, the story won't really be H/Hr, though I've always thought that made more sense than Hr/R, which just makes me shudder. Most of the story will be people pining after someone they can't get. (Something like my own high school days!)
