Not quite sure how easy it would have been to have sacked Dumbledore, but leaving that aside, excellent! You don't by any chance work in education?

Author's Response: No, I don't. All I needed was the experience of student teaching ;)

Thanks for your comment!

I've really enjoyed reading this story, and I was hoping you'd update soon. Plot train hop off the track, did it? Even if you decide not to finish it, I wanted to tell you what a fun read it is. It's great seeing a new character get thrown into the mix like this, especially with the Order hanging in the background - I keep waiting for Order business to pop up. And to echo a previous review, if you decide to continue, I'd love to see Severus summoned during a staff meeting.

Author's Response: Well, this story was the victim of a very thorough canon shafting (as I was expecting, actually) and it never had a super clear direct plot direction to begin with. (Well, technically, it did, but it got tossed after chapter 2 or so-- I decided I liked writing gen fic) I'm giving myself until the end of the year (yikes! One more month!) to make a real decision (which means either update or take it down).

Thanks for your review (nothing to really go in parentheses here, but why stop now?). Despite what appearances must seem, this one isn't quite exactly dead just yet (But it is in critical condition ;))

Jen (who clearly loves parentheses)

Hmm. I don’t quite follow Regalia’s sudden antipathy towards Snape. Maybe I have my Snape-filters on, but he seemed to be following her commands, and hasn’t been too terribly out of line with Remus. I believe the Slytherin class is acting out against Remus because of their upbringing, not because of a Snape-Lupin rivalry; otherwise they’d be acting up for McGonagall, and that’s just not going to happen. But then, I have a soft spot for Snape, so I doubt I see things clearly when he’s involved. Still, it seems to me that Regalia is smarting from his comments at the end of her unsuccessful staff meeting last chapter, and is being petty about taking it out on him. Just my opinion. I can’t say that I like or hate Regalia, but I do think she’s going to have a tough year. Although I still want to borrow her for my next capital budget meeting.

Author's Response: I think you have some very perceptive observations about human nature woven into your review. I'm not going to go into great detail, but I think it's a combination of things with Regalia. For one, she does have a point-- Snape's attitude towards Lupin is one of open disdain, and we actually don't see that with other teachers in canon. He doesn't make snide remarks about McG or any of the others. He openly criticizes Lupin, though, and his students would probably pick up on that. At the same time, I do think Regalia was on a bit of a witch-hunt (or wizard-hunt in this case ;)) and was picking on him. As for liking her or not, that's exactly where I was wanting my readers to be-- wavering.

Thanks for your comments!

Very cool. I don't suppose you'll bring the Order's business into this at some point? I'd love to see Malfoy's reaction at Severus being summoned during a staff meeting.

Author's Response: That would be an interesting scene, wouldn't it? In my outline, yes, something similar would happen. Honestly, I'm still waffling about whether this story will be completed or not. I had thought it would be, but the farther I get from new canon, the easier it is for me to get back into some of my older writings. We'll see.

Again, well done! Your focus on the staff during this term is quite interesting. Its the backstory behind what goes on at Hogwarts. I'm enjoying it and will look for your next update.

Author's Response: Thanks! I really like faculty fics, and I think that the dynamic (not necessarily romantic/sexual) between the grown-ups is a fascinating topic.

Such drama! The professors are well written, especially Snape and McGonagall. I could just visualize Snape's wrath as he came into Lupin's classroom. Well done!

Poor Snape! Poor Lupin! Poor Students! I could imagine the look on Ron and Harry's face when a Malfoy was announced as the new Head of Hogwarts! She's okay in my book---so far.

Author's Response: lol! I'm glad you like her. I kind of like her. I'm not sure I'd like to work-- wait. I was going to say I wasn't sure I'd like to work for her, but the fact is that I do work for her. *blush*

As much as I'd like Severus to have the DADA position, I'd have a hard time picturing any one else as Potions Master or teacher as it would most likely be. This is a wonderful story and I'm enjoying!

Author's Response: Thank you! I find that one of the biggest challenges to a DADA Snape-- who would teach Potions, and who would possibly teach it as effectively as he does?

Gwad... office politics, it's enough to make a person want to scream. It will be interesting to see how this forced truce between Remus and Snape pans out.

Author's Response: It very definitely is. I have to say that this story flows better for me when I've had a bad week at work. I just dump all my frustration into these characters and it invariably sets up a nice, juvenile dynamic suitable for any junior high homeroom or office full of alleged adults.

Teriffic dialog! Snape and McGonagall were perfectly in character. That Fudge! Oh, how I love to hate him! Nice set up for what is to come...

Author's Response: Thank you! I absolutely love writing Snape/Minerva scenes. Someday, I'm going to attempt a fic about the two of them, but not tonight ;) I'm glad you feel so strongly about Fudge, too. Makes me feel I've succeeded.

I love the squabbling--at the Ministry and in the staff room! A Malfoy, eh? I'm scared! I can just see Draco with an extra movement in his already conceited strut! I shall read on...

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying. I really have fun writing the squabbling. There's just a hint in canon of how the faculty responds to each other, and I love the dynamic that's hinted at.

What a packed chaper! I can officially say that I don't care for Malfoy at all. When she turned on Severus and then told McGonagall to spy, it made me think of faculties I've worked on (and dreaded seeing every morning). I'm so hoping the faculty will band together and just make her life miserable. Please? :)

Author's Response: lol. Thank you! I love watching people decide whether they like Regalia or not. The general consensus seems to be drifting towards 'not' at the moment.

I've just caught up on this story and I love it! Regalia is a completely believable character; I love the way that sometimes she hits and sometimes she misses. The Snape/ Lupin interaction is brilliantly written as well; I can imagine them both acting in this way. And the bit about every teacher's worst nightmare - I pity the poor student teachers we used to torment. Still, I always saw it as selection of the fittest; if they weren't a good teacher, we didn't want them sabotaging our exam grades. We only gave one a nervous breakdown...

Author's Response: I used to love tormenting subs. And when I was in middle school I had it down to an art-- stare at them until they became so self-conscious they couldn't teach, and what were they going to tell the principal? "She was looking at me?"

I'm glad you're enjoying! Thanks for the comments.

Yea, an update! There was a lot to like about this chapter--each teacher's different way of presenting the rules, Severus and Minerva bonding together and then staring each other down again, and Snape spelling it out for Malfoy. Am very curious to see what happens from here. Try as I might, I just can't make myself like Malfoy, she seems shifty. :) But I love your characterizations of the teachers, especially the heads of house.

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the story and thrilled that you have such strong opinions about Regalia. Makes me feel like I'm doing my job with her ;)

Brava!!!!!!!!! A true ten stars!!!!!!!! McGonagall was so accurate. Her tirade and adjourning the meeting was sooooooooo like her. Then, in class, assigning a test over 'The Rules'......classsic!!!!!!!!! Severus was brilliant!!!!!!! First, at the end of the meeting, when he told Malfoy that she would fail many more times by the end of the term and that he usually caused his own failures in the past....another attempt of his to teach her how to be better at her position.....one of his innate teaching gifts.......I especially loved it when he rescued Lupin while straightening his Slytherins out.

Author's Response: Thank you. I'm glad you're enjoying the story and giggling because you're cheering for the characters.

*sniff* I think I smell some Snupin! OK, so Snape is only being cordial to Lupin because of Regalia, but I'll take what I can get *grin*. Actually, I thought Snape was on his very best behavior in this chapter. He did give both Minerva and Regalia some good advice, and he wasn't all that snarky about it. Not to say he was out of character, I think that's how Snape would act if anyone ever bothered to be even-handed with him. Which Regalia is, no matter what other faults she may have. Thanks for the update!

Author's Response: If you smell Snupin, it's over on Eros & Sappho ;) Seriously? I love writing the dynamic between those two and grasp at it every chance I get. That's the real reason Lupin's the DADA-- so I could write Snape/Lupin scenes.

I'm glad that you like Regalia's characterization, even if you don't like her particularly ;)

Not caught up yet! you still need the part where Regalia calls ANOTHER meeting (about tatty robes and un-tucked shirtsrolls eyes) and Minerva E-X-P-L-O-D-E-S.

Have I told you that I love this story? :)

And NMNB...how is that doing????

And the Severus/Lupin story on Sepernsortia. But you recently updated that (semi-recently) so I won't harass you...too much.

Author's Response: *hides* okay, new experience-- rabid fan who is following ALL my WiPs!

Let's see. I'm halfway finished with an update for this one, maybe at 25% for NMNB. I've got Happiness going, but it took a turn I'm not happy with so it's on ice until the muse stops pouting that it's not going her way.

Thanks for your comments, though. I'm getting to NMNB rightthissecond!

Well, that actually went better with Snape than I expected. I have always thought that Dumbledore treated him rather harshly over the entire Shreaking Shack incident, but seeing the arguements laid out to an impartial judge make it even more strikingly obvious. I don't know why, but I hadn't considered the students' reactions to the new Headmistress. Now it seems obvious that Hermione would wonder if a No Mudblood Rule would be concocted. I wonder if Regalia will continue to be fair and unbiased with the students, of if Pureblood is thicker than water. I am just thrilled with this story and am always checking for updates.

Author's Response: There are a lot of things to worry about with this new Headmistress, aren't there? I've loved the mixed reactions I get to her. Some people absolutely love her, and some hate her, and I'm just thrilled about that. It's so much fun.

I'm going to try to update again soon, but this story, unfortunately, is lowest in the pecking order of the ones I'm writing. I just wish there were more hours in the day so I could devote more time to everything I do!
