My goodness,
this was beautiful. Insightful, poignant, deeply touching, evocative and bittersweet.
You captured Neville perfectly. His thoughtfulness in not wanting to disappoint Gran & Uncle Algie by telling them he felt no connection with his father's wand; his sad acceptance of his parent's condition and his interactions with them in the hospital.
And that beautiful bit at the end, where Ollivander reads the note from Dumbledore regarding Harry's desire to pay for his loyal friend's wand. How very sweet of Harry.
I really enjoyed this wonderful one-shot. Very well done.
Kara's Aunty ;)
Ramora, that was a really touching story. Lovely.
Loved it! Writing worthy of JKR herself!
This is a really touching story. The bit with Neville not wanting to admit to his grandmother that he doesn't feel any connection with his father's wand, the part with his mom's reaction at the hospital, Ollivander's description of how Neville is actually much more like his mom than his dad, and the note from Dumbledore at the end which includes Harry's offer to pay for the wand all brought tears to my eyes.
Great story! Neville's "voice" is beautiful. But can you imagine actually walking around with bubble gum stuck to your arm? Yuk!
Very nicely executed! I enjoyed Gran and Algie reminiscing about their own wand purchases. Mr. Ollivander, with his excellent memory, was in character. Perfect choice of core for Neville's wand. The note at the end was a very nice touch. Well done!
This is one of the most canon and wonderful fics I have read. I'm thoroughly charmed, cheering for Neville, and touched by Harry's thoughtfulness at the same time.
Well done! A nice piece. It's good to see Neville with a happy ending. He, of all people, really deserves one.
Loved it. It made me cry.
Lovely vignette! Ollivander is one of my favourite characters, and Neville deserves better than to be the comic relief. Well done!
That is a story which I know will be replicated in some form or the other in the Half Blood Prince. You have pieced together canon and your imagination very well. I like the way you portrayed Neville as a sensitive boy. Tinnidawg
I love the way you've incorporated all the little snippets of information from the books into this. I'm sure Neville's magic will improve after this.
Author's Response: Thanks to all who have responded. It's great!! I am very fond of Neville, and this came to me as part of a much larger HGSS that I've given up on, but when I saw the 'new wand' section in the Spring Faire, I couldn't resist writing it in full.
Beautiful!! Thanks for sharing this fic about one of my favorite characters. I wish Rowling would incorporate this into her books.
