Snape as Emilia had me giggling as soon as I realized it.... =D I really liked this story (here on a reference from uchethegirl) -- it fits so closely to the canon of both, and yet takes and alters it at the same time... You've made me completely reevaluate Lupin and James in all the fics I'm starting now, too, so congrats on that. ;-) I was wondering how you were going to pull off the Lord-Voldemort-kills-parents bit, since it doesn't fit so well into the storyline of Othello per se, but it actually worked out really well, I think. Some of the dialogue was a bit odd, coming from the Shakespeareness of Othello, but I thought you did a really admirable job of having characters actually notice and mention it -- it saved the fic from some of that unbelievability -- and the direct addresses to the reader rocked my world. The tone was absolutely perfect. Oh goodness, the implications of what-happens-after.... I really like this interpretation of the Marauders+Lily+Snape dynamic, and it's going to color what I read from now on, I think. The sheer /small/ amount of character bending necessary to make the entire fic come off is hard to believe, and your writing is quite impressive. Thanks!

Author's Response: Thanks for the nice review! It took forever to write this, so I'm delighted people seem to enjoy it. The Voldemort storyline (from HP canon) indeed held up Act V for about six months, while I tried to figure out what to do about it! Eventually I decided to take him out of the equation altogether, since the fic was already labelled AU. While everyone is busy being scared of the Dark Lord... James kills his own wife. Eeeevil and creepy, yes, but I thought it would be interesting to try to pull that off. I'm so glad it worked for you! :) ~Lee

I finished reading this a few days ago, and have only just got round to reviewing *hangs head* This is an amazing story! I can only imagine how hard you must have worked on this - to make it fit so well with canon and the original play is just incredible. Great job :)

Author's Response: Thanks! It was indeed a challenge to get all the pieces from two canons to fit together, but I'm fairly happy with the results. I'm delighted you enjoyed it. :)

Wow. Just...wow. This is amazing. You are truly an amazing writer. This was a beautiful blend of Shakespeare and Potterverse. Exquisite barely covers it. If you aren't going to make a living as a professional writer, it will be the world's loss, truly. *nods*

Thank you for sharing this heart-breaking, amazing, and angsty tale with us. It was a truly enjoyable experience.

Author's Response: Oh wow, that is very kind of you. I do make a living as a writer for now, but it's boring academic non-fiction, so I enjoy dabbling in fiction when I can. :) It was indeed a challenge to merge the Shakespeare and Potterverse worlds here, so it's wonderful to hear from readers who thought it worked. Thank you so much.

Wow. This is a truly amazing fic, and the way you pull it all together truly awes me, I could never manage to do this, I can understand why you had such problems with act 5, but it worked wonderfully. I am awed!

Author's Response: Oh, thanks honey. I'm glad you got to read it; I was curious about what you would think. Yay. :)

Wow...you didn't take this where I thought you might, but very, very enjoyable. Adds a whole new layer on WHY Snape hates REmus in PoA, heh.

Author's Response: And on why Snape hates *Harry*! That's more what I was thinking. :) But now I'm curious as to where you thought it would go. Feel free to email me if you want to chat more about it. Thanks so much for reading. :)

Wow! That was amazing. It was, dare I say it...better than cannon!

I've also been reading Metamorphoses and I am very interested in an update!

Author's Response: Oh, thank you! We shall have to wait one more day to find out what book 6 has to tell us about this situation! I'm delighted you've been enjoying Metamorphoses. We wanted to get a new chapter up this week, but I'm afraid I got carried away with my own fics. :( Soon after HBP, though, we shall continue posting!

Oh my dear...I shudder at the genius that is your Treacherous!Lupin. This is a wonderful departure for you, who usually champions the human complexities of the beloved Remusly one at every turn. What a delight to see you pull all the threads together with such diabolical cleverness and fidelity to canon. I know we're all sitting around a-quiver with anticipation for HBP to come out, so the timing may not have been fortuitious for "Envy" to receive the attention it truly deserves, but this is a marvellous bit of work, my dear. Now that the play is over, it's time for a curtain call - Brava, bravissima! Author, AUTHOR!!

Author's Response: Oh, thank you sweetie, I'm glad you enjoyed it. You're right - my release timing may have left this overshadowed by new canon, but I also wanted to push to get it out before book 6... sure, it's already AU, but just in case we do get some key Godric's Hollow information, I wanted to be able to say that this was completed beforehand! :) Thanks so much for the nice review.
