Is this story abandoned? Please tell me its not! It seems that all the stories I get in to have not been updated in like three months!!

Author's Response: No, Tiger Lily, it's not abandoned. I'm just really, really busy. I've actually been reading it over, and hopefully I'll have another chapter posted within a month. I'm sorry it can't be sooner--but, did I mention I'm busy? :)

Firstly, this is brilliantly well-written. Secondly, the plot itself is ingenious: original, and strangely canon-compliant despite the fact that Voldemort is still very much (for lack of a better word) alive. Thirdly, this is one of the few fictions I've ever read that I feel manages to appropriately characterise Draco Malfoy. You've used the word "compartmentalised" a few times now, and I think that might be the best description possible for him: someone with the ability to completely separate his personal views and emotional responses from the activities of his daily life, even to the point where said responses are, when the need arises, hidden from himself. He is not, in any way, a nice man - but you may manage to make him a good one. I’m hoping for an update, but realise that the nasty interruptions of daily life are probably taking their toll ;) Thanks so much for sharing this with us readers – you’re fabulously talented, and I’m hoping for more! xx

Author's Response: Ok, eurydice, you win the award for my favorite review yet. Thank you for reading this story as closely as I have! To address what you've said about the story being canon-compliant: yes, it is, in that I'm only changing a few crucial details, less than a handful really, of the battle at Hogwarts. When I started writing this story, one of the first things I worked out was--not Draco's, not Hermione's--but Voldemort's fate! Strange, I know, but I want it to be legitimate. Next chapter by May!

Oooooh I love this! I'm so excited that I found this story. You're writing is so detailed, without seeming as though it drones on. The characters are true to canon, even in this twisted version of what could have happened. I am itching to read more!

Author's Response: Thanks for reading, I've been busy with that thing called life, so I don't know when the next chapter will be coming, but keep checking!

I'm really enjoying this story too. I love the whole Dickensian aspect of the servants colluding behind the Master's back...fun stuff!

Author's Response: Heh, I hadn't considered it that way. My motivation for Soddy's behavior is the fact that she would find it extremely difficult to give orders to a witch--whether muggle-born or not (more like a Dobby than a Kreacher.) And she's the unofficial matriarch of the Malfoy house elf family. Glad you're enjoying it!

Loving your fic so far. I feel so bad for poor Hermione, and Draco will hopefully start reedeming himself. I have a question though, how come there still is a muggle London, why isn't it rundown with Voldie chaos?

Author's Response: That's a good question, and I probably won't ever directly address it in the story, because the story's not about Voldy. Simply put, he's just stretched himself too thin in the fight to defeat Harry and the Order of the Phoenix. He's lost several key supporters, and he's down to a fraction of his horcruxes. (No more about that, though, b/c that figures in later.) Now, subversive attacks against muggles--especially those who have had the misfortune of having witches/wizards in the family--are ongoing. If anything, it's more of a grassroots, guerilla campaign at this point. You can see why Voldemort would be pleased that Draco and others like him are marrying into rich wizarding families abroad. I'm glad you're enjoying the story. :)

PLEASE keep writing this. I love D/Hr but all the stories have becoming overly cloying, cliched, or downright boring. This is a fascinating storyline and your writing is fluid. Please post more soon.

Author's Response: So glad you're enjoying. I will keep writing! The next chapter may take even longer b/c of the holidays, but do expect it!

I very rarely leave reviews, but I felt compelled to tell you that I really am enjoying this story. Telling a story so that reader gets sucked in and empathizes with the characters is really difficult, but you're doing a great job. I can't wait for chapter 3!

Author's Response: Thank you! All the kind reviews I've gotten so far have really helped me plow through and stick with this. Chapter 3 has been uncooperative, to say the least, but she's getting there!

I like this idea...I like her being helpless...I like that Draco can be mean and yet slightly tender...

Author's Response: Thank you! I like Draco's complexities as well--I've found myself editing out quite a bit more tenderness on his part; it's just too soon for him to be so considerate. Hermione is in a seemingly helpless situation, but her strength will assert itself more as the story progresses. She is a survivor. I hope you continue to enjoy the story!

I love the story, as well as your writing style. I am in awe of your skills.

Author's Response: Thank you! Little update: I know it's been a while since I posted chapter 2. Was having some problems with 3 (and I've been working on other things,) but I'm working that out right now...I'm glad you're enjoying the story, more should follow within a couple days!

Really fabulous! I love the dynamics between Hermione and Draco. You write very well; you know how to paint a scene, something that is often underrated in fan fiction. As a reader of mostly SS/HG, it was a nice change of pace for sure, and I look forward to reading more.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I, too, read mostly SS/HG, which is why I ended up not writing about them--I just needed a change. When I started thinking about it, I realized that Draco Malfoy and the young Snape parallel each other in many ways, personality- and personal history-wise. I think it's very important that Malfoy repent of his choices, as Snape did--otherwise, I wouldn't be writing this story. I hope you continue to enjoy it!

Wow. This is incredibly visceral and painful, but compelling. I'm fascinated. More, please.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review (my first!) You're right, it is painful, but I expect it to become progressively less so, if not entirely rainbows and butterflies. I hope to be able to continue to post a chapter a week, so check back in a few days!
